Easy AR by Render Island is a plug-and-play, no-code AR toolkit for Unity. Set up ARKit/ARCore projects in the inspector, drop in ready-made packs, and ship AR faster. If you've ever tried to start an AR project in Unity, you know the pattern. Before you get anywhere near the actual experience you set out to build, you're deep in AR Foundation setup configuring ARKit and ARCore, wiring up image tracking, plane detection, object spawning, session management. It's the same plumbing every single time, and it stands between you and the part that's actually interesting. We built Easy AR because we were tired of rebuilding that plumbing on every project.
What Easy AR is
Easy AR is a plug-and-play, no-code augmented reality toolkit for Unity, published by Render Island on the Unity Asset Store. It sits on top of AR Foundation, ARKit, and ARCore and handles the setup boilerplate for you.
The workflow is simple: import the package, configure what you need in the Unity inspector, and hit build. There are no scripts you're required to write to get AR running. Every pack ships with demo scenes, so you can see a working example before you touch a line of your own code.
What's inside the core toolkit:
- Marker / image tracking - detect real-world images and spawn content on top of them
- Plane detection & placement - recognise floors, walls, and surfaces and place objects on them
- Tap-to-place spawning - a ready-made spawning controller for dropping 3D content into the scene
- Modular prefab kit - drop-in components you configure in the inspector, no scripting required
- Included demo scenes - working reference scenes for each core feature
Full source code - included, so developers who *do* want to extend it can
Platform & compatibility:
- Built on Unity's AR Foundation, so it targets iOS (ARKit) and Android (ARCore) from one project
- Works with the Built-in and Universal (URP) render pipelines via the matching package
- Kept updated for current Unity LTS versions on the Asset Store
Support & learning:
Every package includes demo scenes, and step-by-step written and video tutorials are published on the Easy AR docs site. All packages are covered by the standard Unity Asset Store EULA and refund policy.
It comes in two flavours to match your rendering setup:
- Easy AR - Built-in Render Pipeline - the original and most-favourited version, for standard (Built-in) Unity projects. $95 · Built-in RP · Unity 2022.3+ · latest v4.0
- Easy AR (URP) - the same no-code toolkit built for Universal Render Pipeline projects. $95 · URP · Unity 2022.3+ · latest v4.0
Note on render pipelines:
the core toolkit ships as two separate packages - one for Built-in, one for URP. The add-on packs below (Portal, Mini Games, Geospatial) are built for URP, so if you plan to use them, start with the URP core.
Pick the one that matches your project and you're building AR in minutes instead of days.
The Easy AR pack family
Beyond the core toolkit, Easy AR has grown into a family of add-on packs. Each one drops into your project the same way - configure, build, done.
Easy AR Portal Pack
Portals are one of the most striking things you can do in AR - a doorway that appears on the floor in front of you and opens into a completely different 360° world. The Portal Pack gives you that effect out of the box, no shader or scripting work required.
Place a portal on a detected surface, and users can physically walk up to it and step "through" into an immersive environment rendered all around them. Because it builds on the Easy AR approach, setup stays inspector-driven - you're configuring scenes, not writing portal-rendering code.
At a glance: $95 · URP · Unity 2020.3+ · latest v1.0 · 487.5 MB
What you get:
- Ready-to-use walk-through AR portals with correct inside/outside masking
- A set of themed 360° environments to swap in and out - including Halloween, Christmas, a Van Gogh-inspired art world, and an Egyptian Dendera temple scene
- Low-poly, mobile-optimised assets that run smoothly on phones and tablets
A demo scene showing the full portal experience end to end
Works with:
iOS (ARKit) and Android (ARCore) via AR Foundation, on the URP render pipeline.
Best for:
events and activations, retail and brand experiences, museums and exhibitions, education, and any moment where you want someone to feel like they've stepped into another place. If you're searching for a *no-code AR portal for Unity*, this is the pack.
Easy AR Mini Games Pack
The Mini Games Pack is a collection of ready-made, playable AR mini-games built to run on top of Easy AR. Instead of designing AR game mechanics from scratch, you drop in a finished game, point it at a surface, and play - all configured in the inspector.
At a glance: $95 · URP · Unity 2020.3+ · latest v1.2 · 184.5 MB
What's included:
- A set of AR sports mini-games - basketball, football/soccer, cricket, golf, rugby, and American football
- A slingshot-style physics game in the vein of the classic mobile hits
- Physics-driven, interactive gameplay using tap and gesture input
- Low-poly 3D assets optimised for mobile performance
- Demo scenes so you can test on-device immediately
Works with:
iOS (ARKit) and Android (ARCore) via AR Foundation, on the URP render pipeline.
Best for:
brand and marketing campaigns that need an engagement hook, event and booth experiences, app features that reward interaction, and developers learning how AR gameplay and interaction are structured. A fast route to a working *AR sports game in Unity* without building the mechanics yourself.
Easy AR Geospatial Anchors
The Geospatial Anchors pack lets you pin AR content to real-world GPS locations. Anchor a 3D object, a message, or a whole experience to specific coordinates, and it appears when a user is physically standing in that place. It's built on Google's ARCore Geospatial API, which uses global localisation to place content accurately in the real world.
This is the pack for location-based AR - experiences that live outdoors and across a city rather than on a tabletop.
At a glance: $90 · Unity 2021.3+ · latest v1.0
What it does:
- Anchors content to real GPS coordinates so it appears at a chosen physical location
- Uses Google's ARCore Geospatial API and the device's location services for accurate world placement
- Inspector-driven setup consistent with the rest of the Easy AR family
Pairs with the companion Geospatial Anchor Demos package ($90 · URP · Unity 2021.3+), which provides ready-made example scenes showing the workflow in action
Works with:
location-aware AR on iOS (ARKit) and Android (ARCore) via AR Foundation. Requires device GPS and location permissions at runtime.
Best for:
city and campus tours, outdoor treasure hunts and games, wayfinding and navigation aids, tourism experiences, and location-based marketing campaigns. If you're looking for GPS-anchored / location-based AR in Unity, start here.
Who it's for
Easy AR is built for anyone who wants the result of AR development without the setup tax:
- Unity developers who want to prototype and ship AR features quickly
- Studios and agencies delivering AR for clients on real timelines
- Students and learners who want to understand AR by working with something that already runs
- Non-programmers - designers, artists, and makers - who want to build AR without learning the full AR Foundation stack
If you can navigate the Unity editor, you can build with Easy AR.

Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need to know how to code to use Easy AR?
No. Easy AR is designed as a no-code toolkit - you set up your AR scene in the Unity inspector and build. That said, full source code is included with the core package, so if you do want to extend or customise behaviour, you can.
2. Which devices does it support?
Easy AR is built on Unity's AR Foundation, so it targets AR-capable iOS devices (via ARKit) and Android devices (via ARCore) from a single project. You'll need a physical AR-supported device to test the camera-based features.
3. Should I get the Built-in or the URP version?
The core Easy AR toolkit comes in two separate packages - one for the Built-in Render Pipeline and one for URP. Choose the one that matches your project's render pipeline. Note that the add-on packs (Portal, Mini Games, Geospatial) are built for URP, so if you plan to use those, the URP core is the better starting point.
4.Can I use the packs together?
Yes. The Portal, Mini Games, and Geospatial packs are designed to sit alongside the Easy AR approach. For the smoothest experience, keep your project on URP so everything shares the same render pipeline.
5. What Unity version do I need?
It depends on the package. The current core toolkit targets Unity 2022.3+, the Geospatial packs target Unity 2021.3+, and the Portal and Mini Games packs originate from Unity 2020.3+. Each package lists its exact compatibility on its Asset Store page, and newer Unity LTS versions generally work.
6.How does the Geospatial Anchors pack know where to place content?
It uses Google's ARCore Geospatial API together with your device's location services to localise against the real world and anchor content to specific GPS coordinates. Pair it with the Geospatial Anchor Demos package to see working examples.
7.Is there a refund policy?
All packages are covered by the standard Unity Asset Store EULA and refund policy.
8.Where do I get help?
Start with the tutorials and docs.
Try it and tell us what you build
Easy AR exists because we needed it ourselves, and it's better every time a developer pushes it somewhere we didn't expect. So here's the ask: try it, build something, and tell us what works - or what breaks. We read every review and every message, and real feedback is what shapes the next pack.
