Automating Body Measurement with 2D Image Processing
The Challenge
Why this was hard
A good fit depends on accurate body measurements, but taking them by hand is slow and awkward, especially for online shoppers. This R&D project set out to get those measurements from ordinary 2D camera images. Precise enough to trust, simple enough for anyone to capture.
Our Solution
How we solved it
We built machine learning models that derive body measurements from 2D images taken with a standard camera. Computer vision techniques detect body contours and key points with high accuracy, and those become measurements. We then connected the measurements to virtual fitting and made-to-measure apparel workflows, so they could feed straight into the try-on and tailoring process.

What came out of it
The research shows a camera image can replace the tape measure. Body measurements captured this way support virtual fitting and made-to-measure apparel with better fit precision.
